Memorial Garden in Hachioji

We visited site today to inspect the concrete frame for this building forming part of a memorial garden in the suburbs of Tokyo. The single-storey structure wraps around one side of the landscaped green hill feature. For the structural design we used shear walls along the outer facade of the curved plan to carry sway loads. This allowed the garden facade to be kept open, with only a row of slender steel columns supporting the roof (flat slab).

The opening is eagerly anticipated at the end of the year. More news to follow!
