While transferring some of our older projects onto our new website what a pleasure it was to come across the GILIGILI files again. In this building we experimented with using reinforced concrete for the lower three levels, switching to steel for the upper three. Thin, cold-formed steel channels form the outer 'shell' for the upper part, creating a great deal of space with very little steel. A really satisfying more with less structural engineering project.
I also love the way it presents a completely new building paradigm rather modestly within the other conventional buildings along the road.
